February Is Over!

Friday, February 27th, 2009

What a month!  What an ice storm!  As we look back over February, 2009, let’s ponder a few things that we learned.  Here’s a salute to all the lineman and electric company workers in Fox Country!

1. Nothing in this life will wake you up faster than sitting on a cold toilet seat.

2. Propane camping stoves are a good investment.

3. The person who figures out a way to make gas furnaces heat houses without electricity will make a fortune.

4. Second most beautiful sound of the past week - the radio static caused by the power company being in your neighborhood.

5. Most beautiful sound - tie between hearing that loved ones are safe and hearing the whoosh of the furnace kicking on.

6. Look of the week…..scruffy.

7. It’s hard to read with gloves on.

8. Great workout - cleaning your yard up.

9. Scent of the week…..kerosene.

10. Most fun - watching the trees rain icicles.

11. Are the people who love winter happy yet ?

12. Is global warming a threat or a promise?

13. Who knew cordless phones don’t work during power outages?

14. Does anything feel better than a hot shower after days of being cold and dirty?

15. If it’s 52 degrees outside and 48 degrees inside, should you open a window to let the warm air in?

16. It was warmer inside my refrigerator than it was in my house.

17. When ice is an inch thick, the best way to use a can of deicer is to hit the ice with the can.

18. I just wonder in nine months, how many babies can wear a shirt that says “Winter 09″?

Fat Tuesday and Fritos

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

One of this mornings topic on the show was “Mardi Gras” which is french for “Fat Tuesday.”  New Orleans is also the home of the “King Cake” believed to have originated in France around the 12th century. The cakes were circular to portray a circular route used by the kings to get to the Christ Child, which was taken to confuse King Herod who was trying to follow the wise man so they could kill the Christ Child. In these early King Cakes a bean, pea or coin was hidden inside the cake. The person who got the hidden piece was declared King for the day or was said to have good luck in the coming year. Today the person who gets the baby is expected to carry on the carnival festivities by hosting the next King Cake party.

It all started with this morning Almost Impossible Trivia question, What is the second most recognizable scent to Americans according to a Yale University study. Answer: Peanut Butter…..I followed up that question asking Trey has he ever smelled of his dogs feet? I wrote down the food his feet reminded me of “Fritos” and offered a prize to anyone who could tell me the food I was thinking of….It only took three calls before we got the “Fritos” answer! Go ahead try this one at home.
